Super Basic Watering Guide

Updated: Dec 14, 2024

If your plants were in the shade at the nursery,

they have to harden off for a week.

Check/water daily in black nursery pots and expose to sun gradually.

Watch them.

When you have acclimated them to their intended sun exposure, plant them.

Water them in well.

Let the water pool and soak in several times.

Check on them every morning for the 2 week period of transplant shock.

Water according:

1 gallon pot = 1 gallon of water each watering

5 gallon = 5 gallons

Use this formula as you go up, the size container roughly equates to the gallons of water per watering.

Week 1: check daily, water when top inch of soil is dry

Week 3: water about every third day

Week 5: water about every forth day

Week 7 + beyond: water once a week for an hour on a drip system, or corresponding gallon

The #1 rule in watering: don't listen to your gardener, listen to your plants.

They speak if you listen.

You got this.
